The Genie StealthDrive Connect 7155 is a smart belt-drive opener. [Genie's page](https://www.geniecompany.com/garage-door-opener-/model-7155) lists a steel-reinforced belt, a quiet DC motor, built-in Aladdin Connect Wi-Fi and a battery backup, and links its manual, programming instructions and support page. Start with [the manual Genie links](https://www.geniecompany.com/files/en/manual/belt-chain-drive-garage-door-opener) for your exact unit. This guide covers where to find the remote programming instructions, what to check when it stops responding, and what to ask before you buy.

## Programming a remote to a Genie 7155

[Genie says the 7155 comes with remotes already programmed and pairs with up to 16 wireless devices](https://www.geniecompany.com/garage-door-opener-/model-7155), including remotes and keypads. Before you program anything, check that nothing is in the doorway and keep people clear of the door. Then, to add a new remote or reprogram one, use the [programming instructions for belt and chain drive openers](https://www.geniecompany.com/files/en/programming/belt-chain-drive-garage-door-opener) that Genie's model 7155 page links, and check them against your model before you start.

## When the remote stops working

[Genie's troubleshooting page](https://store.geniecompany.com/pages/genie-garage-door-opener-troubleshooting) says:

- **The wall button works but the remote does not.** Replace the remote's battery and reprogram it, or replace the remote. If every remote and wireless device quit at the same time, the circuit board may need replacing, and that is a technician's call.
- **The range has dropped.** Replace the battery and look for new sources of interference. Genie says energy-efficient bulbs can interfere with the remote.
- **The opener starts on its own.** Look for a stuck button on the wall control or a remote. Genie says the most common cause is a short in the wall button or its wires. A technician can test the button and the wiring.

Our guide to [a remote that is not working](/blog/garage-door-opener-remote-not-working) goes through more causes.

The opener's travel limits, force settings and contact-reverse test are set up in the manual's own steps, and they are a technician's job if you are not sure. If the door does not reverse when it hits something, stop using the opener and call a technician. Never raise the force setting to make it pass. And if the door is heavy or the springs look wrong, springs and cables are always for a technician.

## What it is

If you are deciding whether the Genie StealthDrive Connect 7155 is the opener for your garage, here is what [Genie's own page](https://www.geniecompany.com/garage-door-opener-/model-7155) says it is, and what to ask before you buy.

Genie calls it a smart belt-drive opener with a steel-reinforced belt and a quiet DC motor, with the motor and gearbox greased and factory sealed. It lists the opener for residential sectional doors up to seven feet high, with an extension kit for eight-foot doors. Check the model's own page for the motor rating and whether it fits your door.

A belt drive is the quiet option. Our guide to [belt, chain and screw drive openers](/blog/chain-vs-belt-vs-screw-drive) explains the difference.

## What Genie lists

- **Wi-Fi built in.** Genie says the 7155 has integrated Aladdin Connect Wi-Fi, so you can control and track the door from your phone.
- **Battery backup.** Genie says the backup runs the opener in a power outage, for up to 50 cycles from the initial power failure. [California's SB 969](https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180SB969) requires battery backup on residential openers made, sold or installed in the state on or after July 1, 2019. Our guide to [battery backup for garage door openers](/blog/garage-door-opener-battery-backup) explains what it does and does not do.
- **Remotes and car.** The remotes come pre-programmed, it pairs with up to 16 wireless devices, and Genie lists it as HomeLink and Car2U compatible.
- **Security and monitoring.** Genie says Intellicode changes the remote's code with every use, and that GenieSense monitors the opener's operation and stops it to alert you if something changes significantly.
- **Warranty.** Genie lists a limited lifetime motor and belt warranty and says to see the manual for the limits. Read the warranty terms for your model before you rely on it.

## What Genie's page does not say

The 7155 page gives no horsepower and no price. It states the backup as up to 50 cycles from the initial power failure, but not how long the battery lasts before it needs replacing, and it points to the manual for the limits of the limited lifetime motor and belt warranty. Get those from the manual, the retailer's listing for your model and a written quote before you decide.

## What to ask before you buy

- **Does it fit your door?** Check the height and the motor rating against the model's page, and ask the installer.
- **What is the installed cost?** It varies by door and installer. Get a written quote that lists the opener, the battery backup, extra remotes, the install and any hauling.
- **How do the alternatives compare?** [Chamberlain and LiftMaster](/blog/liftmaster-vs-chamberlain) are one company's two brands, and they are sold differently. Compare the specific models and their warranty pages, not the brand names.
- **Are the springs in good shape?** A new opener cannot make up for tired springs, and springs are for a technician. Ask the installer to check them, and ask about the spring's cycle rating: [a standard spring is rated for about 10,000 cycles, and one cycle is one full open and close, which at four cycles a day is about seven years](https://idcspring.com/resources/articles/garage-door-spring-lifespan/).
