# Chamberlain code 1-5: the door stops short, clicks, or hums without moving

Chamberlain’s manuals give three meanings for 1-5. Pick the one that matches what the door is doing.

## The door moves a few inches, then stops or goes back

Something is holding the door back, or the travel module, the part that tracks where the door is, has a loose connection or has failed. The maker lists a broken spring and a locked door among the causes.

**Call a pro.** Make sure the door isn’t locked, then call a pro to check the springs and the opener.

## You hear one click and nothing moves

Something may be stopping the door, such as a broken spring or a lock, or the opener’s main circuit board (the logic board) may have failed.

**Call a pro.** Make sure the door isn’t locked, then call a pro.

## The opener hums for a second or two and nothing moves

The motor is trying and can’t turn: the door may be stuck, by a broken spring or a lock for example, or the motor may have failed.

**Call a pro.** Make sure the door isn’t locked, then call a pro.

Don’t lift or force the door by hand: if a spring is broken, the door can fall. Springs and cables are a pro’s job: DASMA, "Do not try to remove, repair or adjust springs or any door parts or mounting surfaces, such as wood blocks, steel brackets, cables or other like items. Because of potential dangers involved, all repairs and adjustments must be performed by a trained door systems technician using proper tools and instructions."
